Disneyland is known as the “Happiest Place on Earth!”
Now, with its multitude of gluten-free options, it’s one of the happiest choices for a stress-free and gluten-free getaway. Whether you’re riding Space Mountain in Disneyland, Soaring Over California at Disney’s California Adventure, or taking a leisurely dip in the magnificent pool at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, those following a strict no-gluten diet can feel confident in knowing that they will be treated with VIP service to ensure their meals, snacks, and treats are safe, satisfying, and scrumptious.
Upon entering the parks, a complete gluten-free list can be obtained at the park’s “City Hall.”
According to Disneyland’s Executive Chef Christine Weissman, both parks, as well as the Disneyland Resort, receive multiple requests per day for those gluten free goodies.
“Gluten-free pancakes and waffles can be made upon request (at the hotels). Guests may also request gluten-free pizza dough and hamburger and hotdog buns,” says Weissman. And for those with a sweet-tooth craving, gluten-free brownies, cookies, and muffins are available. Weissman points out that guests should simply ask to speak to a chef or manager upon arrival to discuss their specific dietary needs. Guests can also call ahead when making reservations to inform the Cast member of their gluten allergy. Their allergy will then already be noted on their reservation. Reservations can be made by calling 714.781.DINE (3463).
Although guests are allowed to bring food into the park to accommodate their gluten-free appetite, what park-goers might not already be aware of is that both Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure are already chock-full of gluten-free choices at every turn. Some of the parks’ favorite treats are naturally gluten-free, which makes snacking a cinch!
Some of the top gluten-free snacks include:
- Minute Maid Frozen Lemonade
- Turkey Legs
- Cotton Candy
- Popcorn (made with a combination of vegetable and coconut oils)
- Kettle Corn
- Mickey faced premium ice cream bars on a stick (Note: Nestles Novelty Ice cream is made in a plant that produces nut and wheat products)
- Dole Whip
Weissman notes that the Disney chefs are always listening to their guests to understand their needs and expectations, thus, continuously sourcing new offerings and looking at trends that align with the feedback.
So get set for some summer fun with Mickey and the gang! You’re in for a gluten-free and fun-filled vacation the entire family can enjoy.
